Valentino Rossi, before thousands of MotoGP supporters and motorcycle journalists from around the world, rode for the first time the Ducati Desmosedici; so get ready for a sensational 2011 MotoGP World Championship. The first day of the long awaited post-season MotoGP motorcycle test at Valencia was delayed by gray skies and light drizzle in the morning.
Valentino Rossi arrived in the Ducati garage (with the blessing of the Fiat Yamaha Team), where Filippo Preziosi, Jeremy Burgess and his crew as well as engineers and motorcycle technicians from Ducati Corse were waiting for him. At 11:46 a.m. the official Ducati test rider Franco Battaini took to the track for a first shakedown on the black "carbon" colored MotoGP Ducati GP11 and finally, at 12:23 p.m., the nine-time World Champion rode the Ducati Desmosedici for the first time. Rossi started out on a Desmosedici GP11 fitted with a "big bang" version of the engine, which he used for virtually the entire day as he worked on geometry and other settings. As the day drew to a close he made one final run on the "screamer" version.

The second and final day of MotoGP testing at Valencia, Rossi worked closely together with Filippo Preziosi on the setting of the GP11 machine with the big bang engine configuration, completing 70 laps. His detailed feedback and the data gathered over the past two days will help the Ducati engineers develop the GP11 and adapt it more to the riding style of the nine-time MotoGP World Champion. Filippo Preziosi (Ducati Corse MotoGP) says: "The objective is clearly to allow Valentino to ride like Valentino Rossi! We know we have to improve the bike in order to achieve this, especially the front end. He has given us some very precise information and now it is down to us to use it." "We would obviously have liked to give him the opportunity to go faster today but even though that wasn't the case he has impressed everybody over the last two days with the way he works, his calm approach and his positive attitude towards everything," he explained about Valentino Rossi.

In another lean week top scorers, two names shot ahead from the pack to challenge the leaders – @tailzer and @harleymac1. Pulling off an impressive Brit-centric Minella to gain 6 points, @tailzer took second place in the overall standings. Well done sir! @harleymac1 also made impressive gains with his 6 point Minella. Jorge Lorenzo
Laguna Seca, California. MotoGP world champion Jorge Lorenzo has long been inspired by Laguna Seca and its infamous Corkscrew turn and he will be banking on that special spur when he defends his US Grand Prix title this week.

With nine races left this season, the 24-year-old Spaniard trails Australian Casey Stoner by 15 points in the overall standings and would dearly love to trim that deficit further with another triumphant display on Sunday.

Lorenzo made up some ground on Stoner when he snatched second place for Yamaha at last week?s German Grand Prix, one place better than the Australian.

?We are very strong at the moment and we will try to continue to reduce our gap behind Casey,? Lorenzo said on Friday.

?I have had great moments at Laguna Seca, above all last year when I won but also in 2009 when I got pole position even with a big crash and at the end got a podium.?

Two years ago, Lorenzo took pole position despite crashing and partially dislocating his collar bone in qualifying. He finished the race third behind winner Dani Pedrosa and Valentino Rossi after a gutsy performance.

Twelve months ago, the Spaniard again started on pole but this time he benefited from a spectacular crash by compatriot Pedrosa on lap 12 before powering across the finish line 3.517 seconds ahead of Ducati?s Stoner.

?That win was very special,? Lorenzo said of his 11th MotoGP triumph. ?Winning at Laguna Seca was something I?d always dreamed of.?

Lorenzo is certain, though, to face heated competition on Sunday from 2007 US Grand Prix champion Stoner and Pedrosa.

?It?s a circuit I?ve always enjoyed quite good results at and we?ve always been naturally quite fast on it,? said Stoner, who has finished on the podium in his last seven races. ?We?ll be looking to improve our results from the past three weekends. Podiums are great but I?m here to win races.?

Pedrosa, who sealed his return from injury by winning the German Grand Prix on Sunday, is another long-time fan of Laguna Seca, which is scenically laid out in rolling hills overlooking the Monterey Peninsula.

?The atmosphere there is special and I?d like to close the first part of the season with a good feeling,? the 25-year-old said.

Marco MelandriMarco Melandri has renewed the contract that ties him to Yamaha and the Italian will again ride the YZF-R1 machine in the 2012 FIM Superbike World Championship.

“Yes, next year I’ll still be here in Superbike” revealed the 28 year-old former 250 cc world champion in an interview published in Italian weekly magazine Motosprint. “After changing four bikes and four teams in the last four years I am very happy to be able to build something that will last rather than having to start over again every time.”

On the eve of the ninth round of the calendar this weekend at Silverstone, the Yamaha World Superbike Team has now confirmed its 2012 line-up, with Eugene Laverty already under contract for next season.

“Silverstone is a track that I adore and I really like the fast bits. It’s very long and difficult and I am sure that we’ll offer two great races to all Superbike fans. Brno was fantastic not only for everyone watching but also for us riders. The duel with Max was really exciting, I enjoyed it a lot. He’s an ‘oldie’ but he’s still a strong racer. And I’m sure that in the UK we’ll both have to deal with Carlos Checa again and maybe there’ll some other surprises.”
